How does IPL therapy work?
An IPL flashgun device uses intense light wavelength pulses that penetrate into the skin. The light energy is absorbed into particular target cells and converts to heat energy, causing damage to specific target cells, followed by reabsorption of the damaged cells by the body. The flashgun device is tuned to target specific cells. When hemoglobin is targeted, this device destroys the red blood cells in the superficial blood vessels under the skin’s surface, followed by absorption of these tiny vessels. Melanin, a brown pigment in the skin that causes discoloration or age spots, can be targeted; melanin is then absorbed by the body, and age spots become less visible. In addition, the treatment can promote skin rejuvenation by promoting an influx of collagen and elastin into the treated regions, which smooths and softens the skin.
This treatment can also target here follicles and can effectively cause hair removal. At Wildflower MediSpa, we offer hair removal for women to the face, axilla and bikini areas. We offer hair removal for men to the axilla and groin regions.
What conditions does IPL therapy treat?
IPL therapy is very effective for vascular issues, such as spider angiomas and broken veins. It is also very effective in diminishing age spots, skin discoloration and freckles. Skin recovery also occurs in those with acne scars, stretch marks and wrinkles. IPL therapy is also an extremely effective treatment option for those with active acne.
One of the more popular uses for IPL therapy is for hair removal over certain body regions. Those with dark, coarse hair typically experience significant hair removal results, while those with lighter hair do not respond quite as effectively.
